Developed to increase the safety of patrons and staff in licensed premises. Training will help security staff improves their observation and communication skills to prepare them better to prevent, defuse and manage customer disturbances before violence escalates.
ProTect
Security Staff Training is a program designed for individuals whose job responsibilities include:

controlling entrance and line ups outside premises;

requesting proper identification from patrons;
-
monitoring activities of patrons;
-
controlling crowds;
-
defusing potentially dangerous situations;
-
dealing with disturbances.
Training will be delivered through seminars led by AGLC facilitators. A combination of video, case studies, role playing, group work and open discussion will be used to teach the objectives of the program.
There is no cost to licensees or participants to take the program.
What topics are covered?
Participants will learn:

roles and responsibilities of security staff

essential steps to controlling customer disturbances

strategies to stay in control of a bad situation
-
actions and behaviours to de-escalate disputes
-
principles for dealing with extreme situations
-
the importance of keeping your cool
-
legal responsibilities and liabilities
Who is required to take this course?
As of January 1, 2009, it will be mandatory for the following individuals in a Class A Minors Prohibited premises to be certified with
ProTect Security Staff Training:
-
Individuals who work in a security position or manage/supervise security staff in a Class A Minors Prohibited licensed premises;
-
Individuals who own, manage or work for a security company contracted to provide security in a licensed premises.
Individuals who work or volunteer in a security position in any other licensed premises or special event function are encouraged to take
ProTect, but it is not mandatory.
